Two important reports from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) have recently been published. They are the 2022 fiscal year report and the 2021 Texas Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries.
Section 3 of the report covers workers compensation updates with end of year reporting from various departments. This includes end of year reporting for the commissioner's administration, policy and customer services, health and safety, compliance and investigations, hearings, appeals panels and the business process.
Released to help identify occupational safety and health issues, year end data of fatal occupational injures in Texas for 2021 has been released.
In the year 2021, 533 workers were killed on the job in Texas. The incident rate of workers killed in Texas for 2021 was 4.2 per 100k, higher than the national incident rate of 3.6.
The transportation and warehouse industry saw the highest number of employees killed at work with 182 incidents, higher than the two previous years.

Driver/sales workers and truck drivers (transportation) continue to have the highest number of workers killed on the job.
On a positive note, construction and extraction deaths continue to decline with only 115 Texans killed in 2021 in those industries.
